The Sporades Islands

Supposedly created when the gods scattered pebbles into the sea (sporadically!), the Sporades islands are known for beautiful beaches and pine forests.  Although there are over twenty islands only a few have permanent settlements.

Skopelos

More Greek than its glamorous neighbour Skiathos, Skopeols is a green island with soaring mountains, lovely beaches, historic monasteries and reputedly more than 300 churches – the most of which featured as the wedding scene in Mama Mia. The capital, Skopelos Town is a charming town of whitewashed houses, red tiled roofs, narrow streets and of course many churches.  Accommodation is in simple hotels or villas.   There are some wonderful walks in both mountains and forests  and both a map and walking guide book are available.
