The Balearics

Archipelago to the east of the Spanish mainland

The Balearic Islands form an archipelago of four islands to the south east of the Spanish mainland.  With excellent regular flights from most regional airports and a warm climate year round the islands of Mallorca, Menorca, Ibiza and Formentera make for a fantastic holiday destination, whether for a long weekend or a two week holiday.  Accommodation on the islands varies from luxury adult only hotels to sprawling country houses and villas.  Each of the islands is good for active travellers who want to walk, cycle, horse ride or, in the case of Ibiza, dance.  But with accommodation in tiny hamlets or on quiet beaches they also make for a very relaxing holiday too.  See below for more detail on each island and suggestions for holidays.

Mallorca

Mallorca has a postcard perfect coastline, pretty fishing villages, dramatic mountains and a very high standard of accommodation. Highlights of Mallorca include the capital city of Palma with its majestic cathedral surrounded by labyrinthine streets and Pollenca old town filled with cobbled streets, squares with al fresco dining and a weekly market.

Menorca

Rich in cultural history with prehistoric settlements, fortresses, castles and watchtowers, Menorca is also home to an incredible number of beaches – more than Mallorca and Ibiza put together! There is Moorish and colonial architecture to be seen throughout the island and its whole coastline is a designated protected area, so there is an abundance of unspoilt sandy beaches and coves.

Ibiza

Ibiza is most well known for its club scene and the three main resorts of Ibiza Town, Platja d’en Bossa and San Antonio each have fabulous nightlife, world famous clubs, abundant restaurants and bars and beaches. But elsewhere on the island, particularly in the north, things are much quieter. It is a small island with hilly terrain, towering cliffs and a patchwork of groves of olive, almond and fig trees. It also has a stunning coastline and beautiful beaches. We can book you luxury villas, luxury adult only hotels and family resorts and villas.

Formentera

Just half an hour by speedboat from Ibiza, Formentera is an altogether different proposition. It’s an island for relaxing in the sunshine, swimming in the warm waters and gentle walks and cycle rides. The island has UNESCO world heritage status and there is no high rise development. There are a couple of gorgeous boutique hotels to stay in.
