Last week we heard that second vaccinations for the over 50s are to be brought forward to 8 weeks from the first vaccination. Great news if you want to visit Greece, Cyprus, Madeira, Malta and Croatia which allow entry test free to fully vaccinated UK travellers. All these countries are currently on the Amber Travel List. But Iceland is on the Green List and fully vaccinated travellers are exempt from the five day quarantine period (as are accompanying children under 16) as long as they have a negative PCR test on arrival. It may not be a summer sun destination but it has dramatic scenery, short summer nights, exciting activities and stylish hotels. See below for some great trip ideas.

Steps for travelling to Portugal
Entry to Portugal
Step 1: All travellers over the age of 2 must have a negative PCR test taken within 72 hours of boarding your flight. Result must be digital or printed (not a text message)
Step 2: Complete passenger locator card online after check-in.
Step 3: Your temperature may be taken at airport on arrival
Return to the UK
Step 1: Book and pay for Day 2 PCR test with approved government supplier.
Step 2: Complete passenger locator form online within 48 hours of departure. You will need reference number of Day 2 test
Step 3: A negative Covid test (this can be a lateral flow test) taken up to 72 hours before departure. Many airports in Portugal have a clinic where you can take a rapid flow test immediately before departure. Booking advised.
Step 4: Take your rebooked PCR test within 2 days of return. Some government suppliers have clinics at airport so you can get this done as soon as you land (this could mean two Covid tests within 5 hours!!!)
Slightly different rules apply for Madeira and the Azores.
Remember to check your passport has at least six months left on it, you have a valid EHIC or GHIC health card and have taken out travel insurance that covers Covid including cancellation. Steps summarised above correct as of 17/05/21.
