Greece has been a popular destination for British holidaymakers for decades. At Shearwater Travel we work with specialist tour operators to focus on the less visited, quieter and more authentic parts of Greece and her islands. Our operators can take you to almost any island in Greece so there is sure to be something to suit you. We also book trips to some of the larger more well known islands such as Crete and Corfu but here we focus on the quieter hidden parts of the island and small boutique hotels or private villas. We can book anything from a luxury staffed villa in northern Corfu to a fisherman’s cottage for two on the east coast of Alonissos. Each of the Greek islands has its own character so a twin centre or island hopping holiday is a fantastic way to see the islands’ variety.
We cover some of our favourite islands and regions on the mainland in more detail below including some of the incredible walking opportunities to be found in Greece. But our operators cover over 70 different Greek islands between them, so if you don’t see what you like on our website, please get in touch to talk about which Greek island might suit you.
Whilst walking may not be the number one activity that springs to mind when thinking of Greece (think sailing and water sports), it is a wonderful way to discover the country, the landscape and its people. Many of the islands are covered in a network of ancient trails and mule tracks and these are often marked with signs and decent maps and guidebooks are available. The trails are often maintained by the municipality or a voluntary organisation and so self-guided walking is possible. But several of our suppliers have local experts who can take you on walking trips if you prefer.
